SLEEPING HANDSOME
by ZigZag Theatre’s Burleigh Theatre Ensemble
Sleeping Handsome is a new modern twist of the well known fairytale Sleeping Beauty.
A set of twins are being babysat by their bubble obsessed guardian fairies when an evil unicorn comes and curses one of them, Aurora, to be forever different and alone. Thanks to Aurora’s guardian fairies the curse will be broken if she finds her “one true love”.
Aurora grows up trying to conceal what makes her different and is always compared to her ‘perfect’ twin sister, Britney. Her best friend Charles is the only person who understands her. When a school ball is called, Aurora and Charles decide to go together as friends, much to the disgust of Britney’s and Charles’s Mums.
To prevent Charles from going to the ball with Aurora, his Mum enlists the Unicorn to send him into a deep sleep until his “one true love” wakes him, in the hope this will be Britney. Though “true love” can come in many shapes and sizes and a surprising form of love will awake him from his slumber…
A story about celebrating and accepting difference.
